Welling United have signed journeyman striker Warren McBean to replace departing hot-shot Andy Pugh.

Former Gillingham youngster Pugh has scored 33 league goals in less than 18 months at Park View Road and is expected to sign for Blue Square Premier promotion-chasers Cambridge United today for an undisclosed five-figure fee.

The 22-year-old - who has 19 goals for the Wings already this season - had previously been on trial with League 1 side Leyton Orient before the Us came in with an offer of full-time football.

Pugh has scored against the former football league side in the past during a short loan spell with Histon.

McBean - who turns 26 next month - played against the Wings for Bromley in the FA Cup in September before a switch to Margate in December, though he played just once for Gate, a 3-1 reverse against Met Police.

The striker (pictured celebrating a goal against the Wings for Bromley last season) came through the ranks at Barnet - helping them win promotion to the football league - before being released and spending time with Farnborough, Sutton, Eastleigh, Lewes, St Albans, Havant & Waterlooville and Chelmsford.

Do you think Warren McBean will prove to be a suitable replacement for Pugh? Have your say below.
