On-loan striker Jon Main’s second half brace sealed a comfortable victory for Dover Athletic at Weston-super-Mare in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.
Donovan Simmonds and the prolific Adam Birchall put Whites two goals to the good at half-time, before Main’s (pictured) double after the break wrapped up the win.
The visitors could have had two early penalties, but Harry Baker’s appeal was ignored by the referee and Barry Cogan was booked for diving in the box.
Baker then won a corner for Whites and the ball was swung in by Cogan to Simmonds who headed it into the net on 21 minutes.
Whites keeper Ross Flitney was forced into two good saves to keep Dover’s lead intact while, at the other end, Birchall saw a header nodded off the line.
Birchall made sure of his 42nd goal of the season after 36 minutes when he scored from close range, following good work down the left by Simmonds and Nathan Ashton.
The third goal followed on 50 minutes after Ashton did well and and Birchall’s dummy left Main with a simple finish.
Main got his second nine minutes later when he fired the ball under the keeper after being played in by Baker.
The striker almost completed his hat-trick with another effort that hit the post.
Weston pulled a goal back through Dayle Grubb on 77 minutes but it was nothing more than a consolation.
