Local travel is going global!
Arriva Buses is introducing free wifi on some of its services - so passengers can surf as they ride.
The move is a first for Kent, with five new buses on the 116 service to Medway Hospital the first to be fitted with wifi.
That means passengers can now use mobile phones or laptops to stay connected on the go - at a cost of £600,000, including the new buses.
Arriva's regional publicity manager Richard Lewis said: "We all rely on the computer for a lot of things and we particularly wanted to put it on the 116 as it goes through the university campus and is used by students."
Free internet will also be available on most of the buses used on the 101 service between Medway and Maidstone.
If used regularly, the company may also expand its use to other services.
It comes during a shake-up of services which sees extra buses on 10 routes, but fewer on eight routes.
The 101 will see a new late-night bus from Gillingham and Chatham to Maidstone on Friday and Saturday evenings and a return journey from Maidstone in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.
However, on the 155/135 between Chatham and Maidstone evening buses are being axed completely, after Kent County Council withdrew its financial support.
