A public toilet in a Kent car park has been shortlisted for an architecture award.

The Parrock Street toilet block in Gravesend, designed by Plastik Architects of London, is one of just eight buildings across the south east shortlisted for this year's Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards.

Twenty-three projects in the region, which covers Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Guernsey and Jersey, were entered and the final eight selected following visits by members of the judging panel.

Also shortlisted in Kent is the Folkstone Academy designed by Foster & Partners of London, and the Viking Day Unit in Margate, designed by Nightingale Associates of Hove.

The RIBA Award winners in the region will be announced on May 29 and will then be entered in the national awards being judged on June 27.
