Witness appeal after pensioner's road death

POLICE are appealing for a potential witness to come forward after a pensioner died after being struck by a car.

Pedestrian Harry Frater, 84, suffered head injuries when he was hit by a blue Peugeot 307 at the junction of Kelsey Park Road and Manor Road, Beckenham.

He died at the Royal London Hospital on New Year's Day.

The male driver of the Peugeot, who is in his 20s, was uninjured and stopped at the scene.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We believe that shortly after the collision, a small light-coloured car stopped at the scene.

"The car had turned into Kelsey Park Road from the High Street. The driver got out and went to the victim's aid but left before the emergency services arrived. We are appealing for that person to contact us."

The area was also busy at the time with Christmas shoppers and officers are asking anyone with information about the incident, which happened at around 11.10am on December 22, to contact police on 020 8285 1574.
