Woman, 88, attacks intruder with walking stick

AN 88-YEAR-OLD woman attacked a burglar she found in her kitchen of her home in the Southwood area Ramsgate. The drama began when when a young man knocked on her door.

He asked her if she knew of a recovery firm locally as he claimed his car had broken down. She said no, but as she shut the door, she noticed a light on in her kitchen. There she found a second man.

She challenged him, and hit him several times with her walking stick. The man ran out of the back door. Shortly afterwards the pensioner discovered that £900 in cash was missing.

Police hope one of the woman’s neighbours or passer-by may have seen the men running away from the scene at about 6.30pm on Wednesday. The man at the door was aged about 20, 5ft 10in and thin. He had cropped fair hair, and a gaunt face. He was wearing a denim jacket.

The second man was in his early to mid 20s.

He is 5ft 7in tall with wavy dark brown hair. He was wearing a dark three-quarter length jacket, possibly leather. Witnesses are asked to phone Thanet Police on 222179.
