A woman admitted cruelty to a young child when she appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.

Linda King denied attempted murder and assault and those charges were left on the court file after the prosecution said it was not in the public interest to proceed to trial.

The 40-year-old, of Grenville Close, Meopham, committed the offence on October 3 last year.

The court heard she had an alcohol problem and was now homeless.

Judge Jeremy Carey said the offence passed the custody threshold but it was possible King could be spared jail with rehabilitation measures.

She was remanded in custody until sentence on April 16.
