A woman had to be rescued by firefighters and airlifted to hospital after her car was involved in a collision with a van.

Emergency services were called shortly after 10am today, when the accident happened at Five Oak Green roundabout at the A228 near Colts Hill.

The road was closed temporarily while firefighters used cutting equipment to free the woman from inside her vehicle.

The extent of the woman's injuries is not yet known.
