Woman cyclist hurt in Blue Bell Hill collision

A 34-year-old woman cyclist was taken to hospital with head, arm and leg injuries after she was involved in a collision with a car.

The incident happened shortly after 8am on Tuesday on the south-bound carriageway of the A229 at Blue Bell Hill, between Chatham and Maidstone.

Kent Police closed the road for nearly an hour to allow debris to be cleared away.

One motorist caught in the jams, Alastair Irvine, from Gillingham, said: "I saw a bike on the ground and its wheels were all dented and buckled.

"I thought it must have been in collision with a car which had been parked up nearby. It caused quite a bit of a tailback."
