An elderly woman driver has died after an horrific accident at Charing crossroads.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on the A20 Ashford Road, at the junction with Station Road, on Friday at 3.15pm.

The driver of a VW Polo car, a 78-year-old local woman, was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance, where she later died of her injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Volvo F16 tipper lorry was not injured.

The road was closed for four and a half hours while Kent Police’s Serious Crash Investigation Unit (SCIU) attended.
