An elderly woman has died after being hit by a van near a railway station.

The pedestrian was struck by a white Ford Transit close to Tunbridge Wells station this afternoon.

Ambulance crews were unable to revive the woman, who suffered a head injury.

The crash happened in Mount Pleasant Road at about 2pm.

Kent Police officers are attempting to contact the woman's next of kin.

The road is closed in both directions. The coroner has been notified.
