AN ELDERLY woman out walking her dog has been killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Margaret Gafford, 86, from Petham, near Canterbury, was walking along Stone Street at about 8am on Sunday when she was knocked down by a car which failed to stop. She was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

A man is now helping police with their inquiries. Witnesses are being sought and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 01227 762055.
