Woman dies in house fire

A WOMAN has been found dead following a fire at an address in Norman Road, West Malling, near Maidstone.

Firefighters were called to the house at about 12.30pm on Tuesday when they found the woman unconscious but were unable to resuscitate her. She was in her 70s.

An investigation is being carried out although the incident is not being treated as suspicious by police. The woman’s identity has not yet been released. It is thought she died from smoke inhalation.

Station commander Simon Smith said: "There was a small fire in the lounge with hardly any damage. An investigation has taken place that concluded that this was an accidential fire and will be subject to a coroner's report."
