Woman faces charges after road check incident

A YOUNG woman has been charged with three offences after an incident in which a police officer had to "move rapidly" out the way of a car which failed to stop.

Two officers were carrying out road checks in Reform Road, Chatham, in the early hours of Sunday morning when they attempted to stop a vehicle, a gold-coloured Proton.

A Medway Police spokesman said:" The car failed to stop and a police officer had to move rapidly out of the way as the car was driven towards him, but the officer did not suffer any injuries."

The car was found abandoned in Palmerston Road, Chatham, after it had a struck a nearby garden fence. A police dog was used to search the area and a 22-year-old woman was arrested.

Police said today that Angela Smith, of Bright Road, Chatham, had been charged in connection with the incident.

She faces three charges: Driving a motor vehicle when her alcohol level was above the limit; failing stop at an accident and dangerous driving.
