A woman from Ashford continues to fight for her life after her car - carrying her 12-year-old daughter and her best friend - ploughed through an electric fence and ended up submerged in a lake.

In a dramatic rescue on Saturday night four police officers jumped into the lake at Hinxhill Court to try and rescue 48-year-old Philippa O'Hara.

It is understood that as the music teacher turned a sharp corner, her VW Golf went up an embankment, crashing through an electrified fence before ending up in the lake.

She was eventually freed whilst stuck in the car underwater and rushed to hospital.

The two girls, one her daughter Katie, 12, and her best friend, managed to free themselves and reach the surface.

Both were treated for shock but were not seriously injured.

It is understood Mrs O'Hara was driving Katie's friend home at the time of the incident.
