A WOMAN managed to prevent two men from stealing her handbag during an attempted robbery.
The 32-year-old woman was walking along Royal Road, towards Delamark Road in Sheerness, at about 5.20pm on Monday when she felt someone tugging at her bag.
The woman suffered cuts and bruises in the struggle that followed, but she held onto her handbag and the suspects, two males, left the scene empty handed.
A 21-year-old Sittingbourne man was arrested later that evening on suspicion of robbery. He has been baield to Sittingbourne police station pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
PC Jim Howe, of Swale Police, said: "This attempted robbery occurred at a busy time of the day and we are aware there are a number of witnesses who have yet to come forward.
"I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the males acting suspiciously either prior to, or after the incident.
"It may be that you were a passing motorist who did not realise what was going on at the time.
"I would like to stress that all calls will be fully investigated and treated in the strictest confidence."
