A woman was airlifted to hospital in London this morning after being hit by a train.

Police were called to the foot crossing at Glebe Way, Whitstable just before noon after reports that a woman had been hit and injured.

British Transport Police are investigating the incident, which they say is being treated as non-suspicious.

The woman, believed to be 39, was taken to King's College Hospital, London by helicopter with head injuries.

The train involved was the 10.22am London Victoria to Ramsgate. Delays were caused to the service between Faversham and Margate when the line was closed. It was opened again at 1.15pm.
