A YOUNG mother who died in a house fire in a Kent town was pregnant with her fourth child, it has emerged.

Charlene Henry, 25, became trapped in her terraced house in Clover Walk, Edenbridge, when the blaze broke out at around 9am on New Year’s Eve.

Her partner, Danny Myland, and their three young children were able to escape but the playgroup worker, who was about seven months pregnant, was unable to get free.

Mr Myland tried in vain to return to the property and save Charlene after getting his children - aged six, three and 18months - to safety, but he and two neighbours were beaten back by the smoke and flames.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent five appliances to the scene and crews wore breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control, but were unable to reach the young mother in time.

Her body was later recovered from an upstairs bedroom.

Charlene’s distraught mother Audrey, who lives in the same street, told of how she looked out of her window to see her daughter’s house in flames.

She said: "I raced out and saw Danny had got my grandchildren out. He and two neighbours...got a ladder and went round the back.

"They smashed the back window upstairs but they couldn’t see their hands in front of them because of the smoke and the heat was overwhelming. "Charlene didn’t stand a chance."

She added: "I live so close but was helpless. I can’t believe she has gone."

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by police and fire teams.
