A woman was treated for minor burn injuries after a candle started a fire in her house in Chatham.

The blaze in a house, on Magpie Hall Road, started at around 8.20pm on Monday after a curtain was set on fire by a candle on the windowsill.

Two crews from Medway and Strood attended the scene and spent an hour extinguishing the flames and treating the occupier for her injuries.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire and damage was contained in the living room.

The blaze damaged the double glazed windows, curtains and caused smoke damage to the room.
