Woman pulled from sea dies

An elderly woman who was pulled from the sea at Tankerton on Tuesday has died.

She was spotted by a walker at 9.30am who waded into the water and called emergency services.

Ambulance crews revived her and police set up a mobile incident unit.

The woman was taken to Kent and Canterbury Hospital in a critical condition.

She deteriorated and died on Wednesday.

The incident happened close to the sailing club off Marine Parade.

Police spokesman Jane Walker said: “We have looked into the circumstances and it would appear the woman had been in the water, and that she probably went in of her own accord.”

Police have not disclosed the identity of the woman other than to confirm that she was in her 70s and lived in Whitstable.
