Woman treated by paramedics after bus crash

Emergency services were called to Medway Council's picket line at Gun Wharf this morning after a car and a bus were involved in an accident.

The blue Ford Focus was pulling out of a parking space near the council's HQ in Dock Road, when it was in collision with a Nu-Venture bus.

The female driver of the car was shaken and was seen by paramedics at the scene, but is not understood to have suffered serious injury.

The accident happened just after 11am Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene as the woman driver of the car was initially trapped in her vehicle.

She was eventually able to get out of the damaged car after the Nu Venture bus, was moved.

The council workers striking who witnessed the crash are on the picket line protesting over pay.

The picket began at 7am and protesters were holding up signs asking motorists to honk their horns if they support their cause.

Around 20 people were outside the building holding banners.

After the crash police were diverting traffic around the crash scene as congestion quickly built up.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “We sent two pumps to the scene as initially we had reports of persons trapped.

"Our crews are now making sure the vehicles are safe and not leaking any fuel.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “We were called to Dock Road at about 11.03am after reports of a crash between a car and a bus.

"The driver of the car, a woman is not thought to be seriously injured and paramedics and firefighters are on the scene.

"The woman is in shock but is now out of her car after the bus was moved.

"Officers are currently helping to keep the traffic flowing.”
