THE body of an elderly woman was found today on the main sands at Viking Bay at Broadstairs. The discovery was made at about 8.30am by a member of the public.

Detectives are at the scene and a police spokeswoman said: “The investigation has just begun but, at this stage, the cause of death is not thought to be suspicious."

Thanet coroner Rebecca Cobb will be informed and an inquest will be held.
