POLICE have said that hope is fading of finding out what happened to Joanne Swain, the 29-year-old woman who fell to her death from a train near Paddock Wood last month.
Miss Swain, of High Street, Staplehurst, was found on railway lines 500 yards north of Paddock Wood Station on Saturday January 19. She had travelled on the 10.37pm London Bridge to Canterbury West train the night before, after going for a drink with friends.
Det Insp Alan Jenkinson, of the British Transport Police, said her death was looking more and more like a tragic, yet still unexplained, accident.
The train has now been put back into service after every lock was painstakingly examined and found to be working correctly. Mr Jenkinson said that information given by commuters on an "anniversary train" one week later turned up "nothing startling", but added that it was now looking "very unlikely" Joanne was pushed.
So far a disappointing number of people have come forward, despite repeated appeals for information. Mr Jenkinson added: "As time goes by it does get less likely we'll find out what happened to Miss Swain. We have various theories but we need to know for sure. We would like to appeal to anyone that has not yet come forward to do so."
Miss Swain was 5ft 4in, stocky, with shoulder length brown hair. She was wearing a black roll neck sweater, grey trousers, black ankle boots and a full-length Afghan-style coat. Anyone with information is asked to telephone the British Transport Police on 0207 3915275.
