Woman's wheelchair stolen during church service

A DISABLED woman renewing her wedding vows was heartbroken when she realised her wheelchair had been stolen during the church service. The theft happened outside Holy Trinity Church at Milton Regis, near Sittingbourne.

The wheelchair was later recovered from Milton Lake, behind the church, but it was damaged. The woman lives in Sittingbourne but does not want to be identified.

Her husband said: "It annoyed me that a good day was ruined. If my wife did not have a mobility scooter she would be housebound right now. It is going to take two weeks to repair the damage that has been caused to the wheelchair."

Police spokeswoman Sally Farrell said: "It is believed that a boy stole the wheelchair by tying it to the back of his bike. About £50 damage was caused to the wheelchair and the cushions valued at £30 are still missing."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
