Women killed in four-vehicle rush hour crash

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses to a four-vehicle collision in which two women died.

The accident happened on the A2 near Lydden, between Canterbury and Dover, just after 5pm on Wednesday.

A Fiat Cinquecento crossed the London-bound carriageway from Wootton Lane at Shelvin, and then the coastbound carriageway where it was struck by a Vauxhall Astra.

The driver of the Fiat, a 61-year-old woman from Dover, and a passenger in the Vauxhall, a 19-year-old woman from Kingsdown, near Deal, died.

Two other vehicles, a Ford Escort van and a Ford KA, were also involved in the collision but the drivers of these received minor injuries.

The road remained closed for seven hours while crash investigators tried to piece together what had happened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to it, is asked to contact the Serious Crash Investigation Unit on 01622 798537.
