MORE than 150 homes have now been reconnected to the gas supply following the mains problem in a Kent village.

Residents in Hoo, near Rochester woke up on Tuesday to find a problem with their gas supply.

A water main had burst during the night and hundreds of thousands of gallons of water leaked into the gas supply.

So far, more than 90,000 litres of water has been removed from the gas network and pumping work continues.

As the water is removed from sections of the gas main, engineers are able to reconnect supplies to homes, although it is anticipated it will be into the weekend before access has been gained to every home to carry out a reconnection.

Residents can call the 24-hour helpline 0845 026 0019 for more information.
