Young fashionistas can get crafty with their creative side at a one-day workshop as part of Medway Council’s Summer Dayz project.

Budding Vivienne Westwoods and Julien Macdonalds are invited to The Grain Pavilion in Pintail Close on Wednesday August 20.

The challenge is to design a prize-winning outfit from recycled materials. The weird and wonderful collection will be modelled on a catwalk at the end of the session.

The workshop is free for eight to 18-year-olds and runs from 12noon to 5pm. No reservations are necessary.

Youth worker Karen Yusuf said: "This is an opportunity for young people to have fun creating something inventive. The only limit is their imagination."

Recycled materials have become the height of fashion for forward-thinking stylists and designers. Denise Van Outen launched Recycle Now Week in June, modelling outfits by leading ethical designer Gary Harvey.

Harvey, the former Creative Director of Levi’s, created a ball gown made from 42 pairs of used jeans, a tulle newspaper skirt and a technicolour dream dress from recycled cans, bottle tops, cardboard packaging, glass beads and plastic bags.
