James Tredwell admits he can't wait to pit his wits against the game's biggest hitters in the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20, but admits there will be one regret - that he can't be at home helping Kent.
The 28-year-old off-spinner will be on England duty in the West Indies from April 30-May 16, and said: "It’s a shame that I’m not going to be playing the whole season. We all want to be at the international level but it’s a shame that it impacts on to the domestic season."
Tredwell is Kent through and through and nobody in the squad is keener to make his mark back in Division 1. During his last season in cricket’s top flight, he managed just 24 victims at a cost of 51 and it was that poor summer which prompted him to re-assess his game – with outstanding results.
Tredwell, who has 230 career dismissals, said: "I did not have the best of seasons in 2008 but went away and worked hard."
He finished last season with 69 championship wickets in Division 2, since when he has won call-ups to England’s one-day, Twenty20 and Test squads.
He admits he would love to be a member of England’s Ashes party in the winter but also knows only consistency – and wickets – will keep him in the selectors’ minds.
He added: "Last season it was perhaps easier to get your five, six, seven-fors but it won’t be this season as batting line-ups tend to be a little deeper."
