FANS are this week rallying round Kent's X Factor finalist Ben Mills after he had to face a sing-off to secure his place in the final four.
The 26-year-old, from Whitstable, faced boyband Eton Road in the bottom two on Saturday’s live show but was saved by judge Simon Cowell, who had the casting vote.
This Saturday the judges will be powerless as the result will be entirely based on viewers votes so the rocker’s fans have launched a campaign in a bid to make sure he gets through.
A special thread on website www.benmillsonline.co.uk, described by its creator as a call to arms, invites all supporters to leave messages for the singer to help boost his confidence.
It says: “I think it’s time for Ben supporters everywhere to stand head and shoulders above the tabloids, and the tripe that’s being reported in them, and show Ben that he has a huge fan-base out here who are willing him on at every step of the way.
“Unlike some, we see Ben for what he truly is – a mature, extremely talented musician, singer and songwriter with a mind of his own and a determination to succeed.”
Messages left so far should help encourage the marquee company boss, who has admitted he is finding the pressure tough. Posters praise him for being a genuine musician and standing up for his principles after it was revealed he disagreed with mentor Sharon Osbourne over the choice of Elton John’s classic Your Song.
Speaking after the live show, Sharon said: “The second time he sang it he sang it with the emotion it needed the first time.
“I did try saying earlier on that doing live shows isn’t doing television. It is a totally different thing.”
Simon Cowell, who mentors new bookies’ favourite Leona Lewis, said it had not been a difficult decision to save Ben, even though he posed the greatest threat to Leona. “I want the most talented people to win,” he said.
The rocker, of Nelson Road, Whitstable, also performed Wings’ Live and Let Die on the show and won rave reviews from the judges.
Ben has again pleaded with his fans to keep him in the competition on Saturday. He said he was now starting to believe his dreams could come true.
He added: “I am starting to actually really feel like a star. This time three or four months ago I was putting up marquees. Now I am actually here and experiencing this."
