Two new special edition Toyota Yaris models have been released, based on existing models but with extra styling details.

The Yaris Edition, based on T2 spec, adds to the base car's equipment list with 15-inch `smoke-finished' (err, grey) machined alloys, front fog lamps, tachometer and body-coloured mirrors and door handles.

Buyers will also get a rev counter, a leather-trimmed gear knob, rear privacy glass and a small splash of chrome-effect exterior trim, but not air conditioning. That still has to be specified as an option.

A little more outlay buys the Yaris Trend, which is based on the sporty and better-equipped SR spec but adds 16-inch smoke-finished and machined alloys, the same privacy glass and a chrome tailpipe trim. Both cars have blacked-out B- and C-pillars to create a `floating roof' effect when combined with the silver or white paint options.

Each special edition features one engine only. Edition cars will all have a 1.0-litre VVT petrol engine linked to a basic five-speed manual gearbox, while the Trend is fitted with the equally-familiar 1.33-litre petrol and either a six-speed manual or, on the five-door car only, the Multidrive S CVT automatic.

With manual gearboxes both cars are available in three- or five-door body styles. Prices start from £11,695 for the Edition and £13,795 for the Trend. Upgrading to five doors adds £600 and the automatic gearbox in the five-door Trend costs an additional £1,000.
