A weather warning for ice has been issued for Kent.
The Met Office has issued a yellow alert from 5pm tonight until 10am tomorrow (November 20).
It covers most of the south, and experts are warning of icy patches forming this evening and overnight as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing.
Slippery surfaces are probable on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal – not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
Motorists are also being advised by emergency services to be extra cautious tonight.
A fire service spokesman said: “Please take extra care on roads across the county this evening and into tomorrow, with low temperatures and icy conditions forecast.”
Medway Council has put its severe weather emergency protocol in place. This means it is working with the partner agencies to get people sleeping rough into emergency shelters.
People sleeping rough are encouraged to call Kingsley House in Gillingham, on 01634 333600 or Freephone 0808 1641444 before 5pm today to access support.
Kent County Council has also confirmed the gritters will be out treating the roads from 8.30pm, with expected temperatures to drop to -3 degrees.
