The Met office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across Kent with gusts of up to 60 mph expected.

The alert comes into force from 9pm tomorrow and will last until 12pm on Friday.

Strong winds between 50 and 60 mph are expected across coastal areas.

The warning has come into force over parts of southern England and south Wales.

The Met office says there is a low probability of 70 mph over exposed hills and headlands with winds likely to peak after veering northwesterly.

This weather, which will also see heavy rain overnight, could lead to travel delays as well as train and bus services being affected with some journeys taking longer.

It could also see delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

The heavy gusts will be brought about due to an area of low pressure which is expected to move across parts of the country.

Advice for how to stay safe in strong winds has been published on the Met Office's website, which says all lose items such as bins, plant pots and garden furniture should be secured.

Drivers should also leave plenty of time for travel.
