Forget paper trails - a WC that washes with water is set to make a big splash in Faversham later this month.

The launch of the Geberit AquaClean at Roots Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms in Vine Farm, Stockers Hill, Boughton, means a loo that uses a spray of water to clean users will soon be available to Faversham residents.

But before poo-pooing the idea, users should consider the design saves cash by eliminating the need for toilet roll.

The launch of the product in the town will coincide with the opening of a new showroom at the store which will even allow customers to try out their latest product instore.

David Root, who helps to run the family business, said: "In Japan they have used this type of thing for a long time. They are normally used for elderly people but I think it is useful for anybody.

For people who may need help going to the toilet this may mean they can be alone, which is more dignified for them.

"We are building a showroom where people can use the toilet and try it out –that should be ready in a couple of weeks."

A top-of-the-range toilet can set users back more than £4,000 – but it does come with a control panel, initiating the warm water wash, an infra-red system to detect when the seat is in use, a warm air dryer and an odour extraction system.

A portable remote control even allows users to control all the functions, and also save up to four personal preferences.

David added: "I have liked them for a long time but they have always been a bit expensive.

"I think the demand will be quite high. It is a lot more hygienic. I have tried it and I prefer it."
