Two young dogs died after an outbuilding in Wraik Hill at Whitstable went up in flames this morning.

The fire was reported shortly before 7.30am and attended by three crews who had to deal with gas cylinders stored against the building.

Watch manager Nick Salt, who was in charge of the incident, said removing and ensuring the safety of the cylinders was a priority.

He added: “The building was of mixed construction and appeared to be used for storage.

"It was well alight when we arrived and unfortunately, we found two young Alsatians dead inside, although a Rottweiller and a ferret did survive.

“A police dog handler was called to look after the Rottweiller which was a little agitated.

"At the moment we don’t know how the fire started.”
