Young man bailed over suspected murder bid

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a road traffic incident in a town centre.

Kent Police say the incident happened at around 3am on Saturday in The Broadway at Broadstairs.

It left an 18-year-old woman with serious injuries to her face, as well as a broken leg, pelvis, fingers, jaw and cheekbone. She is being treated in hospital where her condition is described as "serious".

Police say a man, aged 20, from Chestfield, near Whitstable, was arrested in Canterbury about 10.30am on Saturday. He has been bailed pending a Crown Prosecution Service decision to prosecute.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Det Sgt Claire Munday at Margate police station on 01843 222 053.

CCTV footage of the area is being scanned as part of the police investigation.
