Young man charged after police DVD swoop

A 19-year-old man has been charged with making a quantity of illegal DVDs after police raided a house on Wednesday.

Mao Ping Yen, of Redbourne Drive, north Thamesmead, is due before Bexley magistrates today accused of making DVDs which infringed copyright work contrary to Section 107(1)(a) of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Three other people, aged 19, 38 and 40, were also arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries

Officers swooped on a house in Redbourne Drive, north Thamesmead, after two Bexley police officers thought there was something suspicious about the behaviour of two men coming out of the property.

The officers spoke to the men and noticed another man open the front door and then close it again quickly.

The officers called for back-up, including police dogs and a police helicopter, to help search the area as other men were seen leaving the house through the back garden.

Inside the property - a town style house on three floors - officers found about 30,000 discs, which would sell for £3 to £5 each on the street.

The contents of the discs include recently released films still on general release, plus pornographic material.
