A 22-year-old man has been arrested and bailed by police investigating the theft of three cash machines from near a Kent supermarket.

A digger stolen from a nearby building site was used to carry out the raid near the Asda in Greenhithe at around 3.30am on Saturday.

The ATMs and two vehicles used in the robbery were recovered later on Saturday in the grounds of Betsham Cricket Club in Bean.

Police say a Gravesend man was questioned on Sunday and released on bail pending further investigation.

Detectives are appealing for information to trace the vehicles used in the raid.

The thieves used a dark blue, 7.5 tonne, flat bed Leyland Tipper lorry - registration number R22 BAT - to transport the cash machines. The lorry was stolen from a builder's yard off Canal Road, Strood, near Rochester, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The robbers also used a blue Jeep Cherokee - registration number N674 WKK - which was taken from the Steam Packet pub car park in Station Road, Strood, at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, June 18.

Police say they are also keen to hear from anyone who saw a dark 4x4 vehicle in Eagles Road and around Betsham Cricket Club in the week prior to and on the day of the theft.
