A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another teenager.

Police are appealing for calm and have asked residents not to take the law into their own hands after the death of 16-year-old Julian Knight in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Julian, also known as Buster, was returning home from a night out with friends when he was stabbed in the neck. He collapsed and died under a walkway in Lensbury Way, Thamesmead.

Stelios Paraschakis, of Thamesmead, appeared at Greenwich Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with the murder.

The 19-year-old sat in the dock wearing a white T-shirt and white trousers, flanked by three security guards.

District Judge Michael Kelly remanded him in custody until a hearing at the Old Bailey on October 24.

Det Ch Insp Tim Dobson, who is leading the investigation, said people living in the area should remain calm and let the law run its course.
