A murder investigation has been launched after police found a man with fatal injuries near Margate seafront.

Officers were called at around 10.45pm Monday to reports of a disturbance at a three-storey terraced house in Canterbury Road, Westbrook.

A spokesman confirmed: "The man who died was a local man, aged 25. A post mortem will be carried out within the next couple of days.

"Two local men, aged 45 and 22, have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently being questioned by police."

Detectives have set up an incident room at Folkestone police station and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Canterbury Road on Monday night or anyone who has information regarding this incident to call them on 01303 289 600.

Police also have local patrols and neighbourhood teams in the area.

Paul Singh, who manages the Liquor Locker off licence opposite, said: "I came back to the store late and saw 10 or so police officers trying to get through the front door of a house opposite.

"A customer told me that the Canterbury Road was totally blocked off at around 1am Monday morning. It is a very quiet and friendly neighbourhood. We know most of the local people, however there are lots of bedsits, so people are always moving in or out.

"It is very shocking that something like this happens right on your doorstep."
