SCOUTS were digging themselves a hole - or 2,000 holes - during a marathon tree planting event.
The youngsters from packs across North Kent were planting a Centenary Wood at Hopehill Campsite in South Street, Wrotham Road, Meopham to commemorate 100 years of scouting.
The green-fingered groups, aged six to 18, spent Saturday and Sunday planting the trees, with Gravesham mayor Harry Smith also laying his roots on Saturday with the planting of a special Centenary Oak.
