Youngster rescued from sinking boat

A BOY is recovering at home after drifting out to sea in a sinking rowing boat. The boy, aged about 10, was on a day trip to Margate from his home in Chatham.

He drifted out to sea at about 8pm on Thursday. A member of the public spotted the boy’s mother and three men running into the sea after him and phoned the coastguard.

The boy was up to his waist in water when an inshore lifeboat crew arrived and took him back to shore where his mother and emergency services were waiting.

Dover Coastguard said paramedics treated the boy for mild hypothermia, but despite being cold he was otherwise uninjured.
