Jimmy Adams said the 2013 season provided him with some lifelong memories to treasure.

The Kent coach said the final game drama against Lancashire – which saw the club chase down 418, the 12th highest fourth innings total in history and the second best in Kent records – was not the only memory he would take from a campaign which featured plenty of frustration.

He said: “It was one of the high points. Some of the run chases through the season were top-drawer. The Sussex 40-over game with the world record, the chase at Cheltenham, the one against Lancashire.

“To have three like that in one season... to have high points like that gives you memories to treasure going forward and reminds you that as a team we are capable of doing good things.”

It was not all highs, though. Adams admitted his biggest frustration had been the rain-affected draw at home to Gloucestershire in August.

He said: “The one I’ll look back at is the wicket we needed against Gloucester on the last day with the rain – everybody felt that one having worked so hard to bowl them out on the third day.

“You walk away thinking it would have been good to have won that but it happens. You learn from these experiences, you plan and move on.”

Adams has already begun planning for next summer and revealed: “I am still busy for now. We’ll spend probably the rest of October bedding things down for the winter and then maybe I’ll get the chance to have a little break.”
