West Bromwich Albion v Charlton Athletic

THE return of key midfielder Alexei Smertin for Saturday's trip to West Brom should give Charlton the perfect lift.

That’s the verdict of defender Chris Powell as the Addicks look to bounce back after losing their 100 per cent record to champions Chelsea last weekend.

Powell said: "We shouldn’t allow the Chelsea defeat to stop us doing what helped us win the first four games.

"Alexei Smertin has been exceptional since he came in during the summer and we missed him again Chelsea.

"He has added that zest in midfield that Scott Parker gave us and I think he has been outstanding.

"He complements Radostin Kishishev and Danny Murphy and the three of them work well together.

"It’s about us bouncing back against West Brom and we need to make sure we do the right things."
