Alan Pardew has described Charlton's end-of-season decline, in which they have won only three of their last 14 games, as the worst of his managerial career.
The Addicks boss, who prided himself on managing teams who made strong finishes to a season, was left exasperated by the team's fall from grace in the play-off reckoning.
He confessed: "In terms of results, this end of season has been the worst I've experienced.
"This week has been a time for reflection and it’s been very painful. Next season starts now and all our thinking this week has been about next season.
"We're looking at a few things already and I would think that all the players will report back midway through the summer for pre-season training because I want us to hit the ground running next season."
