CHARLTON manager Alan Pardew remained upbeat despite watching his side concede a stoppage time equaliser after outplaying Barnsley at The Valley on Saturday.

"I couldn't fault the players, we're eight unbeaten and the club are where I wanted to be at the start of the season, he said.

"If you look at the results we've had over the past 10 games they are very, very strong.

"We forced the issue against Barnsley and drained ourselves. When we got the goal maybe we thought to ourselves thank goodness for that which opened up the door for them to take advantage.

"That was one of the best Championship games we've played and all credit to Barnsley who will surprise more than a few this season."

Charlton were denied a deserved sixth Championship win of the season as Barnsley snatched a last minute equaliser.

The Addicks looked home and dry when midfielder Zheng Zhi planted a perfect header wide of Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller in the 82nd minute after Chris Iwelumo had flicked on Andy Reid's cross.

Then Barnsley stunned Charlton on the break as substitute Martin Devaney crossed for fellow substitute Kim Christensen to equalise.

It could have been worse for Charlton as Grant McCann missed a sitter a minute later.
