CHARLTON manager Alan Pardew continued re-building his squad by snapping up Portugal Under-21 international central defender Jose Semedo on a free transfer from Sporting Clube De Portugal.

Semedo, who has agreed a four-year contract, gained valuable experience last season in Serie A when he played on loan for Cagliari, making his debut against Champions League winners AC Milan.

Semedo is the second European Under-21 starlet to join the Addicks, following France Under-21 captain and right-back Yassin Moutaouakil into The Valley.
