VETERAN defender Chris Powell is out of contract at Charlton in the summer but he insists he wants to extend his stay at the club.

The 36-year-old full-back, who was re-signed by out-going manager Alan Curbishley last summer after a short stint at West Ham United, made his 700th appearance for the Addicks against Manchester United.

He said: "I know long term there will need to be a new, younger left-back. But I still feel I've got a part to play."

Powell has just been named runner-up in the club's player of the year award.
