Sheffield Wednesday 2 - 4 Charlton Athletic
CHARLTON avoided potential embarrassment and entered the FA Cup fourth round draw with a 3-2 win in a thrilling match at Hillsborough on Saturday.
The Addicks thought they had settled their nerves when Dennis Rommedahl gave them the lead after just 12 minutes.
But Wednesday were level within four minutes when full-back Paul Heckingbottom was in the right place to head past Thomas Myhre after Chris Brunt’s inswinging corner.
The visitors were back in front after 28 minutes, though, when Matt Holland fired home from close range after being set up by Bryan Hughes.
And it was 3-1 on the stroke of half-time when Rommedahl bagged his second of the game with a fine finish from Darren Bent’s pass.
Heckingbottom raised the home side’s hopes of a fightback when he scored his second of the game after Richie Partridge’s free-kick on the hour.
But Bent made the game safe three minutes from time when he converted Darren Ambrose's pass to make it 4-2.
Alan Curbishley’s side had lost their previous four away matches and this victory will come as a relief after their recent poor league form.
