PRESTON manager Billy Davies will not be the next manager of Charlton Athletic after the Addicks decided against his appointment.
The 41-year-old Scot met with Charlton plc chairman Richard Murray on Monday, but North End chairman Derek Shaw revealed on Thursday that Davies was no longer a target.
In a statement on Preston's official website, Mr Shaw said: "I have been informed by Charlton Athletic that they are 'going to move on'. They will not be pursuing Billy Davies any more.
"I would like to thank Charlton for their professionalism in this matter, as I feel that everything has been done via the book."
Davies had been installed as the favourite to succeed Alan Curbishley having been given permission to discuss terms last week.
After his meeting on Monday, Davies said: "I had a very good meeting with Charlton. Now I have to make major decisions regarding my family and future."
The announcement is sure to increase speculation linking former Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie with the Charlton job.
Dowie moved into the frame on Monday after announcing he was leaving Selhurst Park. Palace chairman Simon Jordan declared he would be "extremely disappointed" if Dowie crossed south London to Charlton.
