CHARLTON issued an angry denial of reports that striker Jay Bothroyd took drugs that led him to crash his car in Hertfordshire on Monday.

Chief executive Peter Varney said: "I have spoken to the player and his agent and Jay is in hospital undergoing tests.

"Jay had a blackout six years ago and seems to have suffered a recurrence. The car was only travelling at about 10mph when it hit a post. Jay has no recollection."
